EPIPHANY vi
WE may think that we worship God because he is infinitely
greater than we; but that is not why we worship God. The eternal
Son is the perfect worshipper of the eternal Father, and he is not less
than the Father, he is equal with him. He has a better reason than
we have for thankful adoration; the Father has given him more than he has
given to us; he has given him as much as he has himself. The Son
thanks the Father for pouring into him the whole divine life, and he has
the whole divine life in which to live out his thanks. We should
do well, if we could thank God for all we are, with all we are. He
thanks God for all he is with all that God is, for he also is God. Into
his perfect worship of the Father Christ takes us up, by making us living
parts of his worshipping body.
